Who?
We are two third-year Bachelor students at Maastricht University European Law School: Kanerva Jalas (22, Finland) and Matilde Serena (21, Italy). We created this blog together as a part of our project for the Bachelor Honors Program. The decision to join forces stems from our shared interested for the technological developments in the legal world.
What?
We will deal with different aspects of law and tech, based on our expertise. Matilde will focus on policies and the regulatory side of law and technology, while Kanerva will take over intellectual property aspects and dive into software movements and their effects.
On this blog you can find short essays on the topic of law and technology. Posts will be published on a weekly basis…so, stay tuned!
Why?
The fast development of technology has had large scale impacts on every field present in our modern society. In connection to this, the legal field is no different; with the rise of cyber crime, privacy and data infringements as well as governmental and private surveillance, it is vital that professionals and students are informed and prepared for the inevitable changes in the sector. Furthermore, regulating and being informed of legal options during such constant change is required when actions of private parties in a technological context change the legal status of individuals: is Elon Musk allowed to change the user-loved platform Twitter, and how will YouTube deal with accusations of over-blocking but maintain EU-mandated protection over copyrighted content?
